Artist’s Statement

Throughout my time as an artist, I’ve experimented with style and media ranging from lifedrawing, printmaking and digital art, to sculpture and installation work. I have also tried my hand at various media usually considered to be more along the lines of “craft”—fiber arts, woodworking, and even welding. Despite everything, I always return to oil painting like an old friend or a first love. I enjoy rendering scenes and observational pieces in near-photorealistic detail, but I often use more impressionistic methods to address themes of memory and identity. Much of my work focuses on the natural world, as I have long been fascinated by biological illustration. Right now, though, I am simply taking life one day at a time, and using art as a tool to better understand the world around me.
